How Milton Community Centre Is Run

Milton Community Centre is a local charity created and supported by Milton Parish Council that exists to provide spaces, activities, and facilities for everyone in the village. Here’s a simple overview of how we’re organised and how decisions are made.

Our Trustees
The Centre is overseen by a team of volunteer Managing Trustees. Their role is to make sure the charity is well‑run, safe, and financially secure. They look after the big‑picture decisions, from improvements to the buildings to planning for the future.
There are two types of trustees:
  • Elected Trustees – members of the local community chosen at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Representative Trustees – individuals appointed by village groups or organisations that use or support the Centre.
All trustees have the same responsibilities and work together to support the Centre on behalf of the community.

Our Day‑to‑Day Team
The Centre’s Manager and Deputy Manager take care of daily operations. This includes:
  • Opening and preparing rooms
  • Managing bookings
  • Supporting hirers and groups
  • Keeping the building safe and well‑maintained
  • Ensuring smooth running of activities and events
They work closely with the trustees to keep everything running efficiently.

The Role of Milton Parish Council
The land and buildings are owned by Milton Parish Council, which acts as custodian trustee. This means the Council holds the property on behalf of the charity, while the Managing Trustees are responsible for running the Centre and its activities.

How We Make Decisions
Trustees meet regularly to:
  • Review finances
  • Discuss improvements
  • Agree policies and priorities
  • Support staff and volunteers
Meetings are structured, minuted, and focused on ensuring the Centre remains a valuable asset for the whole village.

Why This Matters
By combining community volunteers, professional staff, and support from the Parish Council, Milton Community Centre stays:
  • Local
  • Responsive
  • Affordable
  • Well‑run
This structure ensures the Centre continues to serve residents of all ages and interests, now and into the future.
